Welcome to S5A

We are a year 11 class based at Canterbury Academy. Where we enjoy a host of work-related activities and follow the national Curriculum.  We have begun to work towards a diploma in Life and Living skills.  We will also be working towards functional skills  qualifications in Maths and English.  Every monday we do a work-related learning trip, most often to Samphire Hoe country park in Dover. We help the park ranger with a variety of his tasks such as checking the life safety rings, clearing vegetation and checking the condition of the signs for the public. Every Friday we have drama and art and our currently working on the Shakespeare for school’s project.   We run a mini enterprise project making cement  decorations for the garden . These can be purchased and make lovely presents.

Welcome to Term 2

We started the term with a visit to the Linford Art Gallery to see an exhibition by the Whitstable artist CatMan. We also visited the gunpowder works park in Oare near Faversham and the River Dour in Dover where we will do a river clean in May. PE is on a Monday in the Academy's sports hall and the topics we are looking at are on the topic web given to all the pupils.  We have also had a trip to Westwood Cross to  the cinema to see Ghost Busters and have a trip planned  to the pantomime at the Marlowe . We are concentrating on environmental issues like the effect of plastics on our seas and rivers and healthy eating this term.  In literature we will be studying David Copperfield.  In PSHE we will be looking out emotions and bullying, black lives and women’s rights.
