St Nicholas school has 50% of its pupils attending our extensive satellite provisions around our local community. Satellite classes have been part of our school community for many years and we believe this provision is an optimal learning environment for many of our pupils.

Our satellite classes at Canterbury Academy and Spires Academy provide a combination of small classes and specialist teachers, based on a mainstream campus.  Being based on a mainstream campus provides students with all the social inclusion opportunities that can be so beneficial for them. Many pupils and their families find that the satellite provision gives them a ‘happy medium’, providing a nurturing, child centred education, within our partners’ sites.

Staff within the satellite provisions are all St. Nicholas School staff, with access to the same training opportunities. The staff are skilled and knowledgeable about working with children and young people with additional needs.

Classes can access the facilities and resources of the mainstream school, providing a broad and diverse curriculum. In addition to the core curriculum, pupils can be involved in varied and enriching experiences, such as Forest School and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Our partnerships with Canterbury Academy and Spires Academy are crucial to meet the range of diverse needs of our pupils. We work closely with our partner schools to continually develop and improve the learning experiences for our satellite students.

We are very proud of our satellite provisions, and the pupils within them.
