St. Nicholas School is the Licensee Centre for PROACT-SCIPr-UK® in Kent Schools and Colleges, on behalf of Loddon Training & Consultancy.
St. Nicholas School leads the Kent PROACT-SCIPr Network – a collection of education providers which use the person-centred approaches of the PROACT-SCIPr programme. The Network supports children and young adults across the primary, secondary, special and Further Education settings in Kent with their social and emotional well-being and promotes the ability to students communicate and manage their own behaviour / feelings.

The PROACT-SCIPr-UK® programme was developed and implemented (by Marion Cornick MBE, in her time as Principal of the Loddon School) to enable students to lead a fulfilling life. The obvious benefits that this approach was had led to requests and recommendations to supply training in the PROACT-SCIPr-UK® approach throughout the UK. Marion understood that each person had different needs and not just as a child but that those needs continued into adulthood.  Loddon Training & Consultancy was created in the early 1990’s delivering training not only to teachers, parents and carers but also organisations supporting adults.

A POSITIVE APPROACH
Loddon Training and Consultancy start by understanding people’s behaviour.  Their extensive experience and research shows that behaviours of concern result from people not being able to communicate their wants and needs.  The PROACT-SCIPr-UK “Whole Approach” identifies indicators of distress early and we are prompted to respond positively, in a non-restrictive way.  We only ever teach supportive physical interventions when it is essential to safety.
This proactive approach comes from the PROACT-SCIPr-UK® philosophy.   It is based on evidence and values and takes the ‘whole-person approach’ to supporting people whose behaviour can be of concern and in turn, can restrict their own lives and independence.
This positive approach gives the people our centres are supporting, independence and self-control which enables them to live a fulfilling life.
Apart from St. Nicholas School (the Licensee Centre) there are 18 other main centres using PROACT-SCIPr-UK® across the districts of Kent, each with their own instructors:
