Putting our pupils at the heart of everything that we do.

Welcome to St Nicholas school. We are the district Special School for children and young people from 4 to 19 years with a wide range of special educational needs. All of our pupils have profound, severe and/or complex needs and have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). St Nicholas operates on a number of sites and works closely with partner schools and Canterbury College to provide a wide range of opportunities for all our pupils. St Nicholas is also the base for the outreach team of teachers (STLS) who support children with special needs in mainstream schools.

We are ambitious for our pupils and offer a rich Creative Curriculum that is personalised and offers real life learning in school and in the community. Our skilled and dedicated staff team work very hard to make learning motivating, interactive, challenging and fun, whilst ensuring that all our children and young people feel safe, valued and self-confident.

Pupils’ wellbeing and engagement is central to our decision-making, how we structure our school and develop the curriculum offer across our learning pathways.

As a school, we offer an extensive range of enrichment activities including local trips, residential visits both in the UK and abroad and will continue to explore other opportunities to maximise experiences our pupils can benefit from. Our staff are passionate and driven with the underlying desire to champion our pupils.

We work effectively across our school community with our parents and carers. We work alongside external organisations including our NHS colleagues, therapists and other professionals to best support the needs of pupils.

A website can never capture all aspects of school life but it can provide a taste of what we are able to offer. If you do have, any further questions once you have explored our website then please do not hesitate to either phone the school or contact us by email.
