Welcome to Form 4

A big "Hello" and welcome back to all parents and carers, term 3 & 4 is going to be packed with lots of fun and exciting activities. Learning will be very hands on practical and creative as possible to make sure that all learners have full access to the curriculum. Over the next two terms our class focus is around Australasia / Oceania,  we will be accessing the OCR Life and Living skills curriculum which includes; Literacy, Communication, Home management, Mathematics, Personal skills, their environment and access within the community and The World of Work (including mini enterprise projects). Please click here to view our topic web for this term.

In literacy our core story for the next two terms will be "The Gruffalo" and "The Lorax". As well as learning about the different stories, we will be continuing to develop our writing skills through practical hands-on experiences such as shaving foam, paint, chalks, playdoh, sand and flour. We will also continue to use pens, pencils and a range of media.

In Maths, we will be having a big focus on number skills, money and measurement, there will be lots of practical ways that we can continue to develop these skills and lots of fun will be had on our learning journey. Students will be having opportunities to learn about money and its purpose, there will be many opportunities for students to have a chance to use money in practical ways in the classroom and in the community. Students will be learning about measurement, the importance of measurement and learning a variety of ways how we can use measurement in a practical way.

We will be cooking every other week, during our cooking sessions the students would have made the choice as a class about what we are cooking. During these lessons we will have a whole morning to prepare and cook a main meal and a dessert.

We will be going into the community, during this time we will be money handling visiting places such as cafes. This gives students the opportunity to request what they would like to drink, money handling and then enjoying their drink in the community with their friends.

In PE, we will be active with trampolining, dancing, doing some yoga, general fitness and using the hydrotherapy pool for swimming both weekly.

Credits for all modules will be awarded to students from OCR which can grow and accumulate. Form 4 respond very well to a structured classroom environment, the use of visual supports and the implementation of the TEACCH principles to support their independence and learning.
