The Early Years and Foundation Stage at St Nicholas School is a satellite provision based at Parkside Community Primary School. We have the privilege of supporting our learners at the earliest stage of their educational journey. Our dedicated team facilitate an environment where children can be curious and explore their innate ability to learn.
Children are encouraged to be active participants in their learning through holistic, play based learning opportunities across a range of contexts. Social relationships between children are nurtured, leading to the organic development of pivotal social, communication and regulation skills. Positive, reciprocal relationships between adults and children are a priority, so that children are empowered to develop the transversal skills essential to developing independence.
We have 4 classes in the EYFS, all are mixed Reception and Year 1. Learners are allocated to classes based on their current developmental priorities and best suited learning style.
Classes engage in inclusion opportunities with each other through outdoor learning and enrichment activities.
The Curriculum
Our EYFS curriculum takes a holistic, child centred approach to learning. We provide our children with stimulating learning spaces that afford them the opportunity to engage in both child led learning and structured, adult directed tasks. Outdoor learning, including Forest School, is carefully planned to complement the learning happening indoors, providing the learners with the opportunity to experiment with what they have learned and apply this across a range of contexts.
