Hello to everyone and welcome to the new Spring Term.   S4A worked hard in Terms 1 and 2 and I'm really pleased to say that they are already well on the way to gaining accreditation in Terms 3 and 4 for both OCR and ASDAN examination boards.  We held a hugely successful 'Mini-enterprise' sale at the end of Term 2 and have raised money that will contribute towards our fortnightly cookery lessons.  As usual the timetable changes slightly from term to term and I have attached the latest versions for both Week A and Week B (including dates) so you will know the subjects your student will be covering each day.

If I haven't explained before we have a two week alternating timetable when at Spires as we have to both cover a variety of curriculum subjects and at the same time access rooms and resources in the main Spires building.  This, I hope, means we can deliver a varied and interesting timetable for our students.

Students in S4A are enjoying our text this term 'Goodnight Mister Tom' and have completed some great work around this period in our history.

Some dates for you include:

21.2.22 Term 4 begins

2.3.22 Careers Fair at Canterbury Academy after school for Parents & Students

3.3.22 Careers Talk at Spires Academy after school for Parents & Students

8.3.22 -  our work experience activities at Samphire Hoe begin again, hoping for good weather!

28.3.22 - Drama performance at the Marlowe Theatre

1.4.22 - last day of Term 4, break up for the Easter Holidays.

S4A Spring Term 2022

S4A have had a busy start to the new school year.   We have started our work experience at Samphire Hoe, an area of land that has been reclaimed from the waste excavated by the Channel Tunnel.   The site is now an environmental centre where the public can visit and enjoy the breath taking scenery.    The students are kept busy under the supervision of staff and the site ranger and complete activities such as monitoring the cattle and sheep, picking up litter from the foreshore and keeping the site clean and tidy.    Everyone has really enjoyed themselves and so far we have been very lucky with the weather.

On alternate Tuesdays we now have a functional maths activity where the students visit a local supermarket and have to shop for items - choosing and selecting brands, checking value for money, navigating the checkout and checking change.    This is a valuable life skill and will help our students become independent learners.

Following on from our successful summer fayre we are now preparing crafts items to sell on our Christmas stall in the main Spires school.   We are hoping to raise money for extra resources in the classroom and hope to part fund a trip out in the new year.

I have attached a copy of our topic web for terms 1 & 2, please take a look at the subjects and curriculum your student will be following up until the end of term 2.
