Message from Nigel Wootton, Chair of Governors

Appointment of New Headteacher

I am delighted to be able to tell you that the St Nicholas Board of Governors has appointed Richard Dalton as the school’s new Headteacher.  Richard will start at the school in September 2022.

Richard has worked with Kent SEN schools for 20 years and is currently the Headteacher responsible for the satellite provision at Five Acre Wood School in Maidstone.  With over 700 pupils and over 400 staff, Five Acre Wood is one of the largest Special Schools in the country for children and young people with Profound, Severe and Complex Learning Difficulties.

Richard says that during his teaching career he has “taken on a range of leadership roles which have prepared me for this opportunity to continue to develop and build upon the fantastic foundations that are in place at St Nicholas. I am excited and enthused by the opportunity to lead the school”.

The governors are looking forward to working with Richard as he takes the school into a new era building upon the extraordinary legacy of our current Headteacher, Daniel Lewis.  Daniel will work with Richard over the next 6 months to bring about a smooth transition and handover.
